Reporting for duty

Phillip O’Connor at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch sent me a link to a multimedia package they produced called Reporting for Duty.

Reporting for Duty

It’s a neat package that follows the fortunes of recruits going through Army basic training at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. One section in particular, The Squad, caught my eye.

It uses a little animation loop of photographs to add some movement to the page.

Reporting for Duty: The Squad

Imagine the pictures above moving like a little flickbook. It’s a nice touch.

They have also uploaded all the video in the package – and there is a lot – to a YouTube channel so it can be shared around. Go have a look and enjoy clips like the one below – The Gas Chamber- which makes great use of actuallity and sync sound.
